Forward Deployed Engineer

About the role

Our largest customers come to us with tera and petabytes of data spread across systems that grew faster than anyone planned. As a forward deployed engineer, you embed with those teams, untangle what they have, and get them to real answers on Tailglow.

This is consultative, hands-on engineering. You sit close to the customer, learn their data and their goals, and design the path from raw firehose to clean, queryable, and genuinely useful.

What you’ll do

• Work directly with enterprise customers to map their data and what they need from it.
• Design the transforms, schemas, and pipelines that turn tangled raw data into something they can use.
• Get customers live on Tailglow and make sure they reach value quickly.
• Bring what you learn in the field back to the product team so the platform keeps getting better.

What we’re looking for

• Strong engineering fundamentals and real comfort working with large, messy datasets.
• The ability to sit with a customer, understand their problem, and explain a technical path forward.
• Experience with data pipelines, SQL, and at least one typed backend language.
• A consultative instinct: you like solving the customer’s actual problem, not just shipping code.

Nice to have

• Experience at petabyte scale or with time-series and analytics systems.
• A background in solutions engineering, data engineering, or technical consulting.
